Reportedly someone put a “Home For Rent” advertisement on Craigs List for a home in Bay Point. The person perpertrating the scam included pictures of the home that were obtained from Zillow or some similar real estate web site. A couple was interested in the house, worked the arrangements “on-line” and sent in a deposit. The scammer arranged a time to meet the clients at the home when the keys to the home were to be conveyed.
The clients arrived to the home at the appointed time. The scammer never showed up, had the clients deposit in hand and had already removed the Craigs List advertisement by the time the renters figured out they were scammed.
When dealing with “on-line” deals such as this ensure you convey the deposit in person and obtain a receipt.
