Several recent incidents involving golf carts being driven by unlicensed drivers on Bay Point roadways have occurred; some of these incidents have required the attention of Bay County Emergency Medical personnel. Accordingly, golf cart owners and parents are reminded of the following rules regarding the operation of golf carts on Bay Point roadways:
- All drivers of motor vehicles on the roadways of Bay Point are required to drive safely, to have a valid drivers license, to observe posted speed limits and other traffic control signs, and obey the instruction from any Security Officer.
- Persons 15 years and older holding a valid drivers learner’s permit may drive golf carts on the roadways of Bay Point. Persons under 15 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must be able to operate the golf cart on their own.
- A valid Motor Vehicle Operators License must be carried on the person while driving any motor vehicle on the roadways of Bay Point.
- Every vehicle, non-motorized and motorized, in use between sunset and sunrise shall be equipped with lamps, front and rear.
In order to help ensure the safety of all Bay Point residents and guests, effective immediately, golf cart operation by minors will be the subject of enhanced enforcement by all Bay Point Security personnel. Citations will be issued to all violators, to include the parents of minor drivers and/or the owner of the golf cart.
If the situation permits, security personnel will escort the minor unlicensed driver to his/her residence. In all cases, the minor’s parents will be notified.
