In the inaugural Ryder Cup style three-day match between the Hombre Golf Club and Bay Point Golf Club, Team Hombre beat Team Bay Point by a score of 15 to 9. The match played over three days (Thursday through Saturday); the first day’s event was a four-ball competition with the teams playing at both courses. The second day was an alternate shot match played at the Hombre Golf Club; the third day was an individual competition held on Bay Point’s Meadows Course.
Many thanks and much appreciation to Ron Prottsman, a member at both clubs and the tournament’s organizer. Also, a note of thanks to Bill Wanner, Bay Point’s team captain.
The most successful Bay Point player was Peter Sostheim, winning two of his matches and tying one – congratulations to Peter. Other players winning a match were: Carl Selph, Ray Spock, Jim Cornelius, Len Reynolds, Bill Wanner, Gordon Akst, Ken Felis, Jimmy Hatfield, Walt Symons, Special kudos to Dan Mathews who was forced to play the four-ball competition without a partner.
Other members of Team Bay Point were: John Clark, Carl Anderson, Jeff Marti, Van Johnson, David Collings, Charles Haley.
After each day’s matches, snacks and drinks were served in each respective clubhouse; on the final day at Bay Point, awards were presented to the participants by tournament organizer, Ron Prottsman.
