Bay Point Men’s Golf Association (BPMGA) has received money to establish an ongoing charity scholarship tournament. Mrs. Joyce E. Masters, a Bay Point resident, passed away July 17, 2017.
She left BPMGA $94,215.58 for the scholarship program. The scholarship program is in memory of her late husband, Mr. Barron E. (Barry) Masters.
Barry Masters moved to Bay Point in 1997. He had served in the US Army with the 82nd Airborne in Ft Bragg NC and the 101st Airborne in Ft Campbell KY and had worked for Chevron Oil Co. for 35 years, retiring as a Terminal Supervisor in Concord CA. Barry was an avid golfer, playing often with the Rat Pack and the Dog Fight. He served on the Bay Point Golf Committee and was President of the Men’s Golf Association. He was also vice-president and treasurer of the Legend Place HOA. Barry and Joyce were active supporters of junior golf tournaments in the area. He died at home in 2005.
BPMGA is coordinating with the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA) to:
1. Schedule an annual Florida Junior Tournament at Bay Point Golf Club. The tournament will be named in honor of Mr. Masters.
2. Partner with FSGA Scholars. FSGA Scholars is a scholarship program made possible by FSGA and their Future of Golf Foundation. https://www.fsga.org/sections/Foundation/College-Scholarships/38
